We live in an age where artists have to film themselves drawing in order to prove that they created the art. Anyone can make whatever images they want fairly easily, so images themselves don't necessary represent reality anymore. So either Moscow Mitch gets back to work or takes an interview on why he can't. Doing neither and just sending a letter instead comes across as incredibly suspicious.
