Human civilization wasn't born with the first city. It was born the first time a human broke their leg and it was tended to and healed rather than becoming a fatal injury.

Why do people always think about empathy in simplistic, positive terms? You also need empathy to do something bad to people. When someone threatens another one with harming their children, they perfectly know that it's so bad a thing for the person involved, that person would do anything to prevent that. That's fucking empathy too.

Empathy is the base of human intelligence. It's the ability to see things, events, phenomena in relevance to each other, and their relations from outside. Our species have become so successful at this, we alienated ourselves from the very nature that created us. But in the end, even a 2 years old Chimpanzee can't build an empathy about a situation and come to a conclusion while a 5 year old human child can. The Chimpanzee is just feeling sad losing an offspring or a member of the tribe. That's not equal to human 'empathy'.

Yes, I have observed that many people are actually, very simple. As good as their intentions may be, they can't compute the ramifications waiting just two steps ahead. To put empathy to action requires the ability to envision outcomes. For example, every time there is a school shooting, people who consider themselves to be empathetic "send thoughts and prayers". Is that really empathy, because there is that next six-year-old and a bullet with their name on it.

It's not a real anything. It's a show of sympathy stripped of actual sympathy. It's a delaying tactic forestalling making substantive changes to prevent this next time. The mismanaged and disgusting reflecting pool gets better security, more protective activity, and more heartfelt concern than America's future and that's an intentional choice.

Expatriating is not my preferred solution. Motivating and educating young people, so they will learn from these political mistakes is the answer. For example, so many boomers, gen x, and even millennials believe conservative administrations are better with the economy and deficit. This is easily proven false, yet the myth persists. Historical data shows that the U.S. economy and federal deficit have performed better, on average, under Democratic administrations since World War II.

Gestapo pays a visit to citizen about her unplusgood social media post

She made a social media post about an ICE agent who murdered an American citizen in broad daylight. She quoted news reports, which identified the murderer as Jonathan Ross. She didn't identify him, he was already identified and it was already a matter of public knowledge. So saying that the murderer's name is Jonathan Ross is not a crime.

ICE paid her a visit at her workplace and demanded that she take down the post because it somehow threatens the murderer, who is still uncharged with a crime that was witnessed by many. And of course, they threatened her, just like they threaten harm or cause actual harm to the people in their care, protestors, bystanders, etc.

Who is more egregiously being threatened here?

"Board of Peace" moves to grant itself legal immunity
The draft language would also let the organization obtain public property in Gaza “free of charge”.
I feel like there's already a word for that...
The Board of Peace’s chair, Donald Trump, would have the right to waive someone’s legal immunity, pending majority support from his peace board, the June 2026 draft resolution states.
Whew. Well thank goodness there's some sort of checks and balances by....*reads notes* the guy who let the January 6th insurrectionists escape justice *reads more notes* and the guy who organized them in the first place. Also, there's a whole child traffiking/pedophilia ring thing. Anyway, couldn't ask for a better guy to uphold the law.
US-led reconstruction efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan were often plagued by controversies of corruption or cases of civilian deaths or abuse at the hands of American contractors, including those working for Blackwater and KBR
So weird how that stuff just keeps happening when we clearly have nothing but the best of intentions.

Now Trump admin drafted a report that reinterprets the Constitution to mean there is no separation of church and state. And by church they mean xtian nationalism. I now believe in de-evolution. It just can't be more stupid than this.
